Solar humidification-dehumidification
A solar humidification-dehumidification (SHDH) technology comprises a humidifier, a dehumidifier, and a heater driven by solar energy. Since both humidification as well as dehumidification takes place in separate chambers, they can be independently designed and optimized as per conditions and parameters. The SHDH process is based on the moisture carrying property of warm air which effects into separation of pure water in the form of moisture from saline water [44]. SHDH process is used for the production of desalinated water in low capacity. The process is categorized into three classifications, viz., closed air-open water cycle, closed water-open air cycle, and open water-open air cycle. Recent advancements include the use of packed bed humidifiers and finned-tube heat exchanger in the dehumidifier.
