The chemical industry manufactures a vast number of chemicals to serve the needs of the society. Chemicals sharing common characteristics are grouped together and classified under the same NAICS codes for analyzing their economic impact. The chemical products are broadly classified into seven categories: Basic Inorganic Chemicals, Industrial Gases, Basic Organic Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Fertilizer Products, Polymer Products, Pharmaceutical Products, and Other Chemical Products. A brief description of each of these classes of chemical products is presented in the following subsections.
