Primary duties: Materials engineers develop and test new materials and find innovative ways to use existing materials. Aerospace, automotive, construction and electronics industries often employ them. Materials engineers study the properties and behavior of different materials, such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites and develop materials that are stronger, lighter and more durable. They may also collaborate with other professionals, such as chemists, physicists and mechanical engineers, to develop new products and improve existing ones.
